Check a campaign brief before production begins
- Level: Intermediate
The short answer
An idea for finding gaps between the audience, promise, evidence and call to action before creative work starts.

At a glance
- The marketing problem
- A brief can look complete while leaving the team with different interpretations. Finding missing evidence or conflicting instructions early could reduce avoidable rounds of revision.
- Who this is for
- Marketing teams handing campaign briefs to designers, copywriters or agencies.
What you need
Before you start
- A brief template, an agreed checklist and permission to use the source material. This idea still needs validation against real team reviews.
What goes in
- The draft brief, audience definition, approved product information, campaign objective and landing-page outline.

Step by step
01 Trigger
Collect the brief
Keep the objective, audience, proposition and source documents together. Do not fill missing fields with guesses.
02 AI step
Check against the checklist
Ask the model to identify missing information and contradictions. Each flag must quote the relevant part of the brief.
03 You decide
Review the findings
The owner accepts, dismisses or investigates each flag. A creative choice is not automatically a mistake.
04 Tool
Resolve open questions
Correct the brief and attach missing evidence. Return to review if an important question remains open.
05 Output
Approve for production
Save the agreed brief and the decisions behind it. Hand off only after the owner’s approval.
Where a person decides
The campaign owner decides which flagged gaps matter, corrects the brief and approves it for production.
What to watch for
- The model may flag intentional creative choices or miss an assumption the team takes for granted. It cannot approve product claims or replace the campaign owner’s judgement.
How to tell it is working
- Compare the flags against an independent human review. Record useful findings, missed issues and false alarms; then check whether review time and avoidable revisions improve.
An illustrative example
Input
Illustrative brief: a webinar for operations leaders, with “Book a demo” as the only CTA and an efficiency claim without a source.
Output
Questions for the owner: should the next step be webinar registration? Where is the evidence for the efficiency claim? Keep both items unresolved until a person answers.
